Shanghai Golfers Club (SGC) is celebrating its 25th Anniversary this year. Founded in 2001 by a vibrant and fun loving international group of expats, who loved playing golf and building a strong social network. We began a quarter of a century ago with laughter, drinks, and tales galore and have grown into a staple part of the Shanghai golf scene, providing weekly access to regular competitions, whilst still embracing that all important social spirit! Every Saturday, come rain or shine, we tee off at one of eight courses scattered in and around Shanghai and Suzhou, and finish each round with a meal and drinks at one of our restaurant sponsors.

Providing bus transportation to all the courses, our members ride together, compete together, and share after round drinks together, where stories of 300 yard drives and 40ft putts are shared… and that 9 on the 16th can be forgotten with just one more mojito! With weekly competitions, there are prizes - from balls to booze, a set of clubs to the dreaded DFL pink cap. Our aim is to maintain a fun, competitive but friendly atmosphere for low and high handicappers alike.

In addition to our weekly competitions, we organise several “major” events throughout the year. Kicking off with the Committee Cup in March, holding our Club Champion knockout over the summer, we end with the climax to NG Fund league Season Finale in December with several other events along the way. At the heart of all this activity, the event that our members love the most, we play our very own SGC Ryder Cup, where our European members come together to take on the Rest of The World. This 2/3 day event is played over a spirited, highly competitive and hugely fun weekend “away” in September. Over the weekend 2 team captains select and manage their line ups across 3 different formats – to the victors the spoils and bragging rights for 12 months.

As we enjoy our 25th anniversary, we’re not just celebrating the present—we’re reconnecting with our history. This year, some of our past members are making the journey back to China just to tee off with us again. Because once you’re part of SGC, you’re always part of the family—the bond stays long after the last putt drops!
